Yard Equipment Hire — Terms of Hire
Last updated 31 August 2026 · These terms apply to every online order on yardequipmenthire.com.

When you check out and tick that you agree, you enter a hire contract. We deliver the machine to your property and we pick it up when you are finished. You do not need to sign a paper form on the driveway unless we ask you to. Your order confirmation, these terms, delivery photos, and any texts between us are the hire record.

How hire works

  1. Choose the machine and the day on this website and pay.
  2. We deliver it to the address on your order (free inside the yellow map area; priced by distance outside it).
  3. Read the safe operating card on the machine before you start.
  4. We collect equipment from the original property item was delivered to.

Rates and period

Prices on the product pages are per calendar day in NZD and include GST unless we say otherwise. Hire starts when we deliver and ends when the machine is back in our possession. Extra days are charged at the daily rate. Multi-day hires need a message to us so we can confirm the pickup window.

Delivery rules

The 15hp wood chipper and the 37 ton log splitter are not road-towable. Do not hitch them to a vehicle. Give us safe access for a ute: unlocked gates or a working code, dogs under control, and a note if the drive is steep or tight. You authorise us to come onto the property to drop off and pick up. If we cannot complete the trip because of access, we may charge a wasted-trip fee.

If you ask us to leave the machine when nobody is home, you take responsibility for it from the moment we leave it in a reasonable place at your address.

Using the machine

  • Only competent adults 18 or over may operate it.
  • Most machines take 91 unleaded 4-stroke. Do not put in the wrong fuel. The 180L mixer is electric (800W).
  • Stay within the rating — the chipper takes branches up to 120mm.
  • Wear eye and hearing protection and sturdy footwear. Keep children and animals well back.
  • Stop and contact us if it sounds, smells or behaves wrong.
  • Do not remove guards. Do not take the machine out of the Waikato without asking.
  • Before using the stump grinder, compactor or edger, locate underground services. That check is yours.
  • Wash wet concrete out of the mixer before it sets. A set drum is damage, not wear.

Fuel, cleaning, breakdowns

Bring the fuel level back to about where we left it. Return the machine reasonably clean. If a machine fails from ordinary wear or our maintenance we will repair, replace, extend the day or refund unused hire. Failure from misuse, wrong fuel, no oil or foreign objects sits with you.

Damage, loss and theft

From drop-off until pickup you look after the machine. Except for fair wear and tear, and except where New Zealand consumer law says otherwise, you pay the reasonable cost of repair or of replacing a lost, stolen or write-off machine. Tell us immediately about theft or serious damage and report theft to Police.

We may take a card pre-authorisation or bond. After we inspect the machine we release what is left, usually within five working days.

Cancellations

More than 48 hours before the booked start: full refund of hire (card processing fees may be kept by the payment provider). Inside 48 hours or a no-show: we may keep up to one day’s hire if we cannot re-hire that day. If we cancel because we cannot safely deliver or cover a breakdown, we refund unused hire.

Safety and consumer law

We maintain the plant and supply it with an operating card. Once it is on your property you control that workplace under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

If you are hiring for ordinary home or lifestyle-block use, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986 apply and we cannot take those rights away.

If you are hiring for a trade or business job, then to the extent section 43 of the Consumer Guarantees Act allows, those Act guarantees do not apply to the hire.

Ownership, privacy, law

The equipment stays ours. We use your contact and address details only to run the hire, deliver, and recover unpaid amounts. We photograph the machine at drop-off and pickup. New Zealand law applies.
